How honest is too honest?

everyone participates you hurt me I’m lying
These are not pretentious and terrible lies. Don’t expect any kind of scandalous affair from this movie. Instead, writer-director Nicole Holofcener explores the little lies we tell the people we love, like pretending to like a gift or work.but as you hurt me Once unraveled, it turns out that the discovery of these smaller lies can do more harm than the larger, more malicious lies. Holofcener uses her trademark credibility and keen wit to give a keen eye on the little things we hide from each other, making us question why we do it in the first place. .

What is you hurt me almost?

you hurt me It begins with an intense therapy session, where married couple Carolyn and Jonathan (played by Amber Tamblyn and real-life husband David Cross) bully each other. She hates that he doesn’t see her. He doesn’t like her making salads. By the looks of it, their therapist, Don (Tobias Menzies), seems far from his depth.
But this movie is not a story about Carolyn and Jonathan. At least not directly. It tells the story of Don and his wife, Beth (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), a writer who is currently trying to publish a novel. Don and Beth appear to have a much happier marriage than Carolyn and Jonathan. The first time we saw them together, they were celebrating their wedding anniversary and talking about how lucky they were. They support each other’s work, and Don tells Beth over and over how great her new book is. But an overheard conversation soon rocks her perception of her entire marriage.
Beth and her sister Sarah (Michaela Watkins) overhear a conversation between Don and Sarah’s husband Mark (Ariane Moyid), in which Don admits that Beth’s book is not good. Enough to make Beth vomit in Louis-Dreyfus’s hilariously run-of-the-mill physical comedy…or at least enough to make her vomit on the street before it’s empty.
I can’t help but think of Carolyn and Jonathan while Beth processes Don’s lie for the rest of the movie. Their brutal honesty contrasts sharply with Beth and Don’s sneaking around their problems. As you hurt me As the story progresses, we learn more about other lies around Beth. Sarah doesn’t think Mark is the best actor, but she always tells him that Mark is great. Some of Don’s clients are polite during a session, but call him an idiot as soon as they leave. “What is the best approach to relationships?” the film asks. “And how do we keep the line between truth and falsehood when we know the truth hurts so much more?”
you hurt me It hits hard with subtle humor.

In previous movies like Please and enough saidHolofcener, also starring Louis-Dreyfus, has proven to be adept at producing mannered comedy about parts of everyday life, with understated, biting humor. you hurt me is no exception, mining laughter from awkward pauses, sharp counterarguments, and the general anxiety of its characters. Scenes like conflating the personal histories of two of Don’s clients, or Beth realizing that none of the writer’s students read her memoir, are just moments away from how the film can be so disgusting. It perfectly sums up how you spin gold.
One of the greatest comedic actors of all time to grace the screen, it’s no surprise that Louis-Dreyfus delivers a hilarious yet surprisingly vulnerable performance. Menzies and Watkins in particular are a good fit for her, and the rest of her film’s ensemble, including Moeed and Owen Teague as Don and Beth’s sons, also gets some standout moments. The scenes involving difficult clients Watkins and Lamp are particularly tumultuous.
you hurt me knows that character issues don’t matter in the big picture, but that doesn’t stop them from treating each character with the proper weight. Beth admits that the world is crumbling and that Don’s lies are not her concern, you hurt me Important questions still arise. If Don doesn’t like Beth’s work with her, considering it an extension of herself, what does that mean about his feelings for her?On the other hand, Don just wants to encourage Beth . So what if you don’t like her book?
Let’s be honest, watching this couple fumble around awkwardly, even in small things, makes for an adorable watch full of catharsis and sweet and funny moments. It has all the hallmarks of a great Holofcener movie, and proves once again that magic can happen when she and Louis-Dreyfus work together.
you hurt me It will be released in theaters on May 26th.
