Jammu, May 25: Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor of Jammu University, chaired the first meeting of the Non-University Women’s Education Committee DD&OE today. Speaking on the occasion, Professor Umesh Rai congratulated Professor Neil Rometra, Director of the Directorate General of Distance and Online Education, for taking the initiative in establishing and functioning the Board in record time. Stated. He further said the board’s aim is to empower girls and women in the region who, due to unavoidable circumstances, cannot access college or higher education on a regular basis. Classes are held on weekends, Saturdays and Sundays, so they can get a taste of the campus atmosphere.
The vice-chancellor further said that emphasis will be placed on courses that ensure employability and self-employment. She emphasized that the analysis will be done by the Directorate General, which will give direction to the design of different courses for women in the region who wish to take them on weekends.
At the meeting, it was decided to start with themes such as financial literacy, English proficiency, computer literacy, tourism, housework, tailoring, beauty and health, cooking and baking.
Earlier, Professor Neil Roumetra, Director General of Distance and Online Education, presented an agenda item for the meeting that was thoroughly considered to set the course of action and implementation. She said the Board responds to women’s empowerment and provides a platform to empower those who have been denied access to training and education for compelling reasons and circumstances.
It should be mentioned here that the Board functions under the policy of the JU Distance and Online Education Directorate. It was also decided to establish a dedicated helpline facility for the Board to subsequently address questions raised by each candidate.
